"Ida" directed by Paweł Pawlikowski is doubtless the most prominent and successful Polish film of the passing year 2014. Since its premiere in September 2013, "Ida" has won over 80 prizes at numerous film festivals (among other: Best Film at Gdynia, Warsaw, Kraków, London, Bydgoszcz; FIPRESCI Award at Toronto IFF; many recognitions and awards for best actress: Agata Kulesza and Agata Trzebuchowska as well for the cinematography of Ryszard Lenczewski and Łukasz Żal). The European Film Academy nominated the film in seven categories and awarded five, including Best European Film an won 87th Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Film.

The film is set in Polish People's Republic in 60s. Anna (debutante Agata Trzebuchowska) is a young woman, an orphan brought up in a convent by the nuns. Before she can take her vows, at the behest of her prioress, Anna is going to Łódź to meet her aunt, her only living relative. Wanda Gruz (an excellent role of Agata Kulesza) tells the niece her real name is Ida Lebenstein and her parents were Jewish - so she is, too, and were murdered during the Second World War. A journey to discover her unknown and dramatic family history is started off - both for Ida and for Wanda.
